Gold Beach Oregon – On The Southern Oregon Coast

Gold Beach Oregon is named for the gold that was found near here in the mid 1800’s. Gold Beach is located on the Southern Oregon Coast just 45 miles or so north of the California border.
They say that it is located in Oregon’s Banana Belt because it has more hours of sun than any other town on the Oregon coast.
This remote little sea town features both ocean and river fun like whitewater jet boating, kayaking, windsurfing, beachcombing, fishing, hiking or biking.
No mater what you like to do you will find it here in this uncrowded town with it beaches, quiet roads, hiking trails, wide open spaces, vast forests and rugged mountains.
They just invite you to relax and explore the many different sites. Gold Beach is home to miles and miles of clean pristine Pacific Ocean beaches. It is a quite little town and most people don’t even know what all you can do there.
Mail boats And Jet Boats On The Rogue River

The mail boats based in Gold Beach Oregon have been delivering mail upstream to the little town of Agness since 1895. The mail boats are only two rural mail boat routes remaining in the United States.
From May through October, there are tour boats that provide the only jet boat access to the federally designated “Wild Section” of the Rogue River.
You will get a close up view of wildlife and river life. The salmon and steelhead fishing in the area is second to none and there are excellent groups of licensed guides available. Ocean charters for fishing and sightseeing are also available.
One thing I do know is that you will really like the jet boat tours. They are a lot of fun and will give you an experience that you won’t forget.
Gold Beach Weather
The area experiences pleasant average highs of 65 to 70 which is very nice weather for the coast. That is why they call it the “Banana Belt” of the Oregon Coast. During the winter months the average temperature is around 45 to 50. The climate is very mild.
Gold Beach receives an average of 70 to 80 inches of rain a year but the area has the enviable position of having the highest “total sun hours” on the Oregon Coast. You just can’t beat this weather. If it is hot in the valley then all you need to do is head over to the coast to cool down!.
Beachcombing
The beaches offer a great place to beachcomb. You can find some beautiful agates that are a real treasure. December through April is the best time to spot them. You can also find jasper, fossils and pertrified wood.
There is always plenty of driftwood to catch your eye. A lot of it comes from the rivers that empty into the ocean and then washes up on the beach. There seems to be a abundance of driftwood on the beaches in this area.
Don’t forget the tidepools. The best time to explore them is on low tide. Check the tide charts here.
Myrtlewood
One thing you will want to visit while you are in the area is the many different Myrtlewood factories. You can take a tour of their workshop and watch craftsmen shape rough pieces into works of art.
Also check out their gift shops. They make the wood in a variety of unique products such as bowls, clocks, gun stocks, murals miniature lighthouses and nearly anything else you can think of.
Gold Beach Oregon Motels
Gold Beach Oregon offers one of the best selections of motels with oceanfront or river views. I have listed just a
few of the motels here. There are also a variety of restaurants with local dishes to please every appetite.
The pictures below will show you just a little bit about the area.
